Bryn Arw translates from Welsh as "Rough Hill" and you can walk to the top of the ridge from the hut in less than half an hour. The quieter months of the year before the bracken grows high, offer some of the most stunning views taking in the surroundings, so don't be put off booking a stay here in winter!
On the other side of the valley is the famous Sugar Loaf mountain, which at nearly 2,000 ft dominates the landscape. From the hut it is about an hour or so to the top, depending on how often you pause to take photos. Here's the view from the footpath above Caban Bryn Arw.
From the lower slopes of the Sugar Loaf lies the "broken mountain" Skirrid Fawr to the east.
To the north is Offa's Dyke and Herefordshire.
As there is only a small car park on this side of the Sugar Loaf, you can often be the only ones up there. Not forgetting the grouse clattering through the bracken, or from spring the cuckoos and skylarks. Whatever the season, it's always a heavenly start to the day.
